Toyone Power Station
Toyone Power Station is the site of a former hydroelectric plant in Toyone Village, Kitashitara District, Aichi. It began operating in 1918, built by Furukawa Mining to supply power to the Kune Mine. It drew water from the Onyu River in the Tenryu River system, with an output of 1,070 kW at first and 3,450 kW after expansion. Its management later passed from company to company: Tenryugawa Suiryoku Denki, Toho Electric Power, Nippon Hassoden, and Chubu Electric Power. With the construction of the Sakuma Dam downstream, it was moved about 80 m higher in 1955, but construction of the Shin-Toyone Dam began in 1969, which meant its intake weir would be submerged in the reservoir, and it stopped operating on December 31, 1971. Today its remains stand half-submerged on the shore of Lake Sakuma.
