Tsubojiri Station (Switchback Station in a Valley)
An unstaffed station on the JR Dosan Line. It sits at the bottom of a valley in the Asan Mountains near the border between Tokushima and Kagawa, with no road for cars leading to it. It opened as a signal station in 1929 and became a passenger station in 1950. Because the grade is steep, it is a switchback station: trains that stop here first reverse on a spur track before entering or leaving the platform. An old wooden station building remains, and only three local trains in each direction stop here. The mountain paths are slippery, and some sections along the cliffs have no railings.
