Kagawa Prefectural Government Office East Building

A prefectural government building designed by Kenzo Tange and completed in 1958. In 2022 it became the first postwar government office building to be designated a national Important Cultural Property. Murals by Genichiro Inokuma remain in the pilotis lined with exposed concrete columns and in the first-floor lobby, and the building is still in use as the prefectural office. In the lobby at quiet times, the air of the "open government office" envisioned after the war lingers quietly.
