Inujima Copper Smelter Ruins
The remains of a copper smelter that operated in the Meiji era. It shut down after only about ten years, leaving huge red-brick chimneys and the walls of the smelting facilities standing on the island, rising from a desolate landscape that overlooks the Seto Inland Sea. Today the site is preserved and used as part of the Inujima Seirensho Art Museum, where an industrial ruin and contemporary art come together to create a distinctive sense of time.
