Koboro Station (Remote Station Between Tunnels)
An unstaffed station on the JR Muroran Main Line. It sits in a gap of only about 80 meters between two long tunnels, surrounded by steep cliffs on three sides and by Uchiura Bay on the fourth. It was set up in 1943 as a signal station where trains could pass each other, and became a station in 1987. No road leads to the station, and only six local trains a day stop here. Its closure was considered in 2015, but from the following year the town of Toyoura has kept it running. Brown bears appear in the area, so avoid visiting alone.
