Tsutsuishi Station (Platform inside the Kubiki Tunnel)
An unstaffed station on the Echigo TOKImeki Railway's Nihonkai Hisui Line. In 1969, with the double-tracking of the Hokuriku Main Line, it was moved inside the Kubiki Tunnel, which is about 11 km long. The platforms lie about 40 m below the station building at ground level, and from the ticket gate it is 290 steps down to the platform for trains in one direction and 280 steps to the platform for the other. When trains pass, strong winds blow through the tunnel, so the platforms are separated from the passageways by heavy sliding doors.
