Tsuruga Railway Museum (Former Tsuruga Port Station)
A railway museum housed in a 1999 reconstruction of the old Tsuruga Port Station building. The building, a faithful reproduction of Taisho-era Western-style architecture, is a valuable link to the history of Japan's railways. Its retro exterior standing in the quiet of Kanegasaki Ryokuchi park, with few people around, creates a strange sense that time has stopped. When it is lit up at night it takes on an even more dreamlike air, and it has drawn attention as a liminal space drifting on the border between the present and the past.
