Tsuruma Park Fountain Tower

A fountain tower at the center of Tsuruma Park, which opened in 1909 as Nagoya's first park. It was built the following year, in 1910, for the 10th Kansai Prefectural Union Exhibition held in the park. It was dismantled in 1973 for subway construction but restored to its original form in 1977, and it is now a cultural property of Nagoya City. Early in the morning, when no one is around, the circle of marble columns and the Western-style plaza look like the grounds of a finished exposition that have simply been left behind.
