Fushimi Underground Shopping Street (Chojamachi)

A long, narrow underground shopping street running 240 m in a straight line east from Fushimi subway station. It was created in 1957 as an underground wholesale arcade linking the station with the Chojamachi textile district above. Shops line only one side of the passage, and the walls painted yellow-green and orange, along with the exposed pipes, seem to preserve the atmosphere of its early days. Before the shops open or after they close, the passage becomes a long corridor where the same view goes on and on.
