Bunshokan (Former Yamagata Prefectural Office and Assembly Hall)
The former Yamagata Prefectural Office and Prefectural Assembly Hall, built in 1916. These brick buildings were designed by Shinnosuke Tahara and are a national Important Cultural Property. They were restored to their original appearance over about ten years starting in 1986 and are now open to the public free of charge. Along the long corridors lie the former governor's office and meeting rooms with no one in their seats, and a stillness as if only their role as government offices had slipped away.
