Nippon Bengara Kogyo Wake Factory Ruins

The remains of the Wake factory of Nippon Bengara Kogyo, in the mountains of Wake, Okayama. Founded in 1922, the company used pyrite ore from the Yanahara Mine to produce bengara, a red pigment. In 2000 its bengara business was transferred to Toda Kogyo, and this factory ceased operations. Its warehouses and refining equipment remain, their walls and ceilings still stained red with bengara. The site is still used by a private company and is off-limits, so please view it only from outside the fence.
