Kaichu Road (Ayahashi-kan Sea Station)
A road of about 5 km built on an embankment across shallow sea, linking the Yokatsu Peninsula in Uruma with Henza Island. It opened in 1972. Partway along this single road, with nothing but sky and shallow water on either side, a large parking lot and the Ayahashi-kan roadside "sea station" sit alone as if afloat. On a quiet weekday evening, it feels like driving on and on down a road that leads nowhere.
