Nago City Hall
Nago City Hall, completed in 1981 and designed by Team Zoo (Atelier Zo). It was chosen from 308 entries in a nationwide design competition and won the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize. Lattices of concrete block and sunshade trellises are stacked in tiers, and breezy semi-outdoor spaces open up throughout the building. On holidays or in the evening, when no one is around and only the wind passes over the stepped terraces and long ramps, it looks like a strange place that is neither quite a government office nor quite a village.
