Former Maya Kanko Hotel
A white building on the slopes of Mt. Maya in Kobe, sometimes called the "Queen of Ruins." Around 1929-30, the company that ran the Maya Cable Car built it as the Maya Club, and after postwar renovations it became the Maya Kanko Hotel. Damage from typhoons and other disasters ended its hotel business around 1967; it was then used as a lodge for student training camps and has stood unused since 1993. In 2021 it became a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. It is badly deteriorated and off-limits, but the exterior can be seen from near Niji Station on the Maya Cable Car (whose subtitle means "in front of the former Maya Kanko Hotel"). The interior and its immediate surroundings can be visited only on paid guided tours that support its preservation.
