Liminal space · Nagano, Japan

Chino Cultural Complex

A cultural center designed by Nobuaki Furuya, opened in 2005. A walkway from the station building above the tracks at Chino Station leads straight into the complex, blurring the line between station and building. The library runs long and narrow alongside the station platform behind a 5-meter-high wall of glass. A place for waiting for trains and a place for reading sit side by side, separated by a single pane of glass: a space made for passing through.
