Former JNR Kurayoshi Line Track Bed (Bamboo Grove)
The disused track bed of the former JNR Kurayoshi Line, which became widely shared on social media as "the most beautiful abandoned railway in Japan." Forty years after the line closed in 1985, a bamboo grove has grown up along the old route, its tall green stalks lining and enclosing the track. The contrast between the tunnel of bamboo, with sunlight filtering through, and the rusted rails creates an unreal space where time seems to have stopped. Local volunteers have cleared and preserved the route, and you can still walk along it and trace what remains of the old line.
