Asakawaza Theater
A Meiji-era wooden playhouse in the town center of Asakawa, Fukushima. Built around 1902 with a revolving stage, it was used for plays, rokyoku (narrative singing) and films. It is also known as the stage where Haruo Minami made his name in his younger days as a rokyoku performer. It closed as a cinema around 1969 and was later used as a restaurant and for other purposes. Today the central roof has fallen in, and the town has surrounded the building with traffic cones. It stands in a residential neighborhood, so please only look quietly from the street.
