Aomori Museum of Art
An art museum next to the Sannai-Maruyama archaeological site, opened in 2006. Designed by Jun Aoki, the building looks as if white boxes had been set down over earthen trenches like those at an excavation. White-walled corridors and stairways interweave, and as you walk you gradually lose track of where you are. On snowy days and at night, the white building itself seems to float apart from reality.
