Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), Ramps at Night
Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is a cultural complex that opened in 2014, designed by Zaha Hadid with Samoo Architects & Engineers. Its exterior is clad in more than 45,000 aluminum panels, many of which differ from one another in size and curvature. Walls and roof flow together without a break, making it hard to tell where the outline of the building ends. The roof is a walkable park, and inside, gently rising ramps continue on and on. Late at night, the curved surfaces, their lights turned off, dully reflect only the glow of the streetlights, and the noise of the surrounding markets fades into the distance.
