Puhŭng Station, Pyongyang Metro

A station on the Chollima Line of the Pyongyang Metro, opened in 1987 together with Yonggwang Station. It lies about 100 meters underground and is reached by a long escalator from the surface. An arched ceiling stretches over a platform of polished marble, and the light of chandeliers hung at regular intervals is reflected in the floor. Large murals hang on the walls, and it is one of the stations to which foreign visitors have been taken. The lavish decoration and the sheer depth together create a space cut off from the world above.
