U-Bahnhof Museumsinsel, Starry-Sky Platform

A station on Berlin's U5 underground line, opened in 2021. Part of it lies beneath the Kupfergraben, a canal of the Spree, and it was dug using a method that freezes the surrounding ground. The platform ceiling is a deep ultramarine, scattered with 6,662 small lights like a starry sky. It was designed by Max Dudler, based on Schinkel's stage set for the Queen of the Night in the opera The Magic Flute. The platform lies about 16 meters underground. Once a train pulls out, only footsteps remain beneath the artificial night sky.
