Tropical Islands (Former Aerium Airship Hangar)
A hangar built in 1999 and 2000 by the company CargoLifter to construct the CL160, a large cargo airship. It is 360 m long, 210 m wide and 107 m high, and is said to be among the largest halls in the world without interior columns. After the company went bankrupt, it opened in 2004 as an indoor tropical resort. A sandy beach, a lagoon and a rainforest of around 50,000 plants are all contained beneath the steel framework, and some of the membrane is transparent so the sky shows through. The interior is kept at 26°C all year, and the seasons and weather outside never reach it.
