Former Makabe Station, Tsukuba Railway

The site of Makabe Station, an intermediate stop on the Tsukuba Railway's Tsukuba Line, which closed in 1987. The old platform remains as it was, and the site now serves as a cycling rest area on the Tsukuba Kasumigaura Rin Rin Road. The tracks have been removed, but the platform edge stones and traces of the station sign quietly recall the past, and the empty, straight stretch of space has an unusual, out-of-the-ordinary feel. It is especially dreamlike when the rows of cherry trees are in bloom.
