Former Waga River Hydroelectric Power Plant

The remains of a power plant on the banks of the Waga River in Sennin, Waga-cho, Kitakami, near Wagasennin Station on the JR Kitakami Line. It began operating in 1940 as a private power plant supplying electricity for ironmaking. It drew water from the Oarasawa Dam upstream, but when the Yuda Dam was completed in 1964, that dam sank beneath the new lake and the plant's role came to an end. The white concrete powerhouse and the surge tank still remain. It can only be reached by crossing the river, and there are large holes in the floor, so do not try to get close.
