Solna Centrum Station
A metro station in Solna, just outside Stockholm, opened in August 1975 with the Blue Line. The ceiling of the platform, carved from bare bedrock, is painted entirely red, and a green spruce forest is painted along the walls for about a kilometer, so that a forest at sunset surrounds the station. The artwork is by Anders Åberg and Karl-Olov Björk and takes as its theme the environmental destruction and rural depopulation debated in 1970s Sweden. When the train leaves, quiet returns to the red rock cave.
