T-Centralen Station, Blue Line Platform

T-Centralen is the central station of the Stockholm metro and the only one where all three lines, Green, Red and Blue, meet. The Green Line platforms opened in November 1957, and the deepest, the Blue Line platforms, were added in August 1975. On the Blue Line platforms the excavated bedrock is left as the ceiling and walls, covered with blue-and-white vine patterns by the artist Per Olof Ultvedt. The plant motifs, painted to follow the uneven surface of the cave, and the blue lighting give this deep rock space an underwater color. It is a busy interchange, yet when the crowds ebb just before the last train or early in the morning, the blue cave is left behind with only its painted vines.
