Consonno, Toy Town
In 1962 the businessman Mario Bagno bought a small hilltop village in Brianza, dating back to the Middle Ages, and turned it into a town devoted to entertainment. A minaret-like tower, a pagoda, a gate modeled on a medieval castle, a hotel and a dance hall were built, but landslides caused by heavy rains in 1976 and 1977 blocked the only road, and the town went into decline. Today the tower and colonnades still stand among the trees and grass. Many of the buildings are unsafe and sit fenced off on private land, and visiting hours are limited. Please view it only from the permitted areas.
