Montreal Underground City RÉSO / Gare Centrale Concourse

Winters in Montreal are harsh, and starting with the opening of Place Ville Marie in 1962, underground passages were gradually linked into a network about 32 km long. The concourse of Central Station, opened in 1943, is in the Art Deco style, and beneath the large windows at each end runs a series of bas-reliefs by Charles Comfort depicting Canadian industry and everyday life. From there, passages branch out to malls, offices and metro stations, and you can keep walking without any sense of the weather or the time of day outside.
