Habitat 67, Walkways in the Air
A housing complex designed by the architect Moshe Safdie for Expo 67 in Montreal. It stacks 354 precast concrete boxes, with outdoor walkways and stairs running between them. Other homes sit both overhead and underfoot, and the paths turn and climb upward while the line between inside and outside stays blurred. Built as an experimental housing project for the Expo, it is still owned and lived in by its residents. The grounds are private property, so see the inner walkways on a guided tour and respect the residents' privacy.
