Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport Terminal 1
The oldest terminal at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, opened in 1974. Designed by the architect Paul Andreu, it is a circular concrete building about 190 meters across, with an open atrium through its center where escalators enclosed in transparent tubes cross one another in midair. It is linked to the surrounding satellite boarding buildings by underground passages. A major renovation was carried out through 2023. At times when transfer passengers are few, it feels like being left behind inside a giant machine.
