Is "Exit 8" Real? Looking for Actual Places With the Same Eerie Vibe

"Is there really a place like that somewhere?" Anyone who has played, or watched the film adaptation of, the horror game Exit 8 has probably wondered this at least once. Instead of chasing an official "correct answer," this article rounds up real places with a similar atmosphere, using actual examples recorded on LIMap.

Why Exit 8 Feels Like "I've Seen This Somewhere Before"

Exit 8 is a horror game with a deceptively simple rule: walk the same underground passage over and over, spot the small "anomalies" hidden in it, and turn back if you find one. Since its 2023 release it has spread widely through streamers and let's-play videos, and a live-action film adaptation followed in 2025.

What most players describe is the same feeling: fluorescent lights lined up in a featureless corridor, a view that barely changes no matter how far you walk, and a nagging sense that "this could actually exist." The setting is fictional, but that sense of plausibility is exactly what makes the game unsettling.

No Station Has Ever Been Officially Confirmed

To be clear upfront: the developer has never officially named a real station as the model for Exit 8. Even so, a corridor inside Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo's Koto Ward keeps coming up on social media, since its irregularly spaced fluorescent lights look a lot like the game's visuals (the production company has stated it was not the filming location).

In other words, Exit 8 probably isn't really about finding the one "correct" location. It's more about noticing that this feeling can lurk almost anywhere in everyday life.

What That "Quietly Unsettling" Feeling Actually Is

When a familiar corridor or station suddenly loses every trace of the people and everyday life that normally fill it, that same familiar place can feel like somewhere you've never been. This is what's known online as a "liminal space," and the gap feels strongest in places that are normally full of people, like hallways, underground passages, or a train platform late at night (we go deeper into this in What Is a Liminal Space?).

Exit 8 seems to have struck a nerve precisely because it distills this feeling into its purest, most concentrated form.

Real Places With a Similar Atmosphere

Rather than hunting for the one "model station," exploring real places with a similar atmosphere might get you closer to what makes Exit 8 compelling in the first place. LIMap already has several of these recorded.

Besides the Kiyosumi-Shirakawa corridor mentioned above, there's the connecting passage deep underground at Tokyo Station between the Keiyo and Musashino lines, the so-called "underground temple" (Metropolitan Area Outer Underground Discharge Channel) with its rows of giant pillars 50 meters below ground, and the tunnels dug into the mountainside at the former Matsushiro Underground Imperial Headquarters in Nagano.

If one of these catches your interest, you can check its exact location and how to get there right on the LIMap map. And if you find your own "Exit 8"-like place, you can record it and share it with everyone else looking for the same feeling.
