Liminal space · Ukraine

Arsenalna Station

A metro station in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, opened in 1960. Its platforms lie about 105.5 meters underground, and it was long considered the deepest metro station in the world until it was overtaken by Hongyancun Station in Chongqing, China, which opened in 2022. The depth comes from its location on high ground on the right bank of the Dnipro River; from the surface, you ride two long escalators in succession, taking about five minutes to reach the bottom. During the Russian invasion that began in 2022, it was used as a shelter. Be sure to check the latest safety information before traveling.
