Můstek Station Aluminum Walls
Opened in 1978. The stations of Prague Metro Line A have walls entirely covered with anodized aluminum panels. Round concave panels and flat ones are arranged in a regular pattern, and only the color changes from station to station: gold, silver, green, red. The hollows catch the surrounding light and glow dully, turning the whole wall into a uniform texture on which the eye cannot settle. Socialist-era state design stripped away every piece of information except the station name, and as a result the platform became a place that could be any station at all. Stand before this wall just after a train has left, and for a moment every clue to where in Prague you are disappears.
