Begich Towers, Whittier

A 14-story building in Whittier, Alaska, where most of the town's roughly 270 residents live. Built in the 1950s as an Army facility, it now houses not only apartments but also a post office, a general store, the police, city offices, a clinic, and a church under one roof. It is connected to the school by an underground tunnel, so in winter people can take care of daily errands without going outside. Outside the windows are the fjord and the mountains; inside, corridors of identical doors stretch on. It is a residential building, so please be considerate of the residents when visiting.
