Capitol Complex, Chandigarh
The government district of Chandigarh, India, designed by Le Corbusier from the 1950s onward. Its three buildings, the High Court, the Legislative Assembly and the Secretariat, stand far apart across a vast concrete plaza, with reflecting pools and monuments such as the Open Hand placed between them. The distances between the buildings are so great that they never seem to get any closer as you walk. It was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 2016. As a working government complex, it can only be visited on guided tours that require advance registration and photo ID.
