Palace of the Parliament (Palatul Parlamentului)
The parliament building in Bucharest, Romania, formerly known as the House of the People. Construction began in 1984 on the orders of the Ceaușescu regime and continued until 1997. The lead architect was Anca Petrescu. With a floor area of about 365,000 square meters and around 1,100 rooms, it is said to be the heaviest building in the world. A large part of the old city was demolished to build it, and about 40,000 people were relocated. Marble halls and long corridors go on and on, and the interior can be visited on guided tours.
