Cincinnati Subway, Liberty Street Station

An unfinished subway lying beneath Central Parkway in Cincinnati. Construction began in 1920, but rising costs and political conflict exhausted the funds in 1927, and work stopped before any track was laid. More than 3 km of tunnel and four underground stations, including Liberty Street, survive largely intact: there are platform edges and rows of columns, yet a train has never once arrived. A water main now runs through it, and there are no public tours. The city has been seeking proposals for its use, but entering without permission is not allowed.
