Madrid-Barajas Airport Terminal 4
Terminal 4 of Madrid-Barajas Airport, opened in February 2006. It was designed by the British firm Richard Rogers Partnership (now RSHP) with the Spanish practice Estudio Lamela, and won the RIBA Stirling Prize the same year. Y-shaped steel columns support an undulating ceiling finished in bamboo, and the color of the columns shifts gradually like a rainbow from one end of the building to the other. Identical spaces lit from skylights repeat endlessly, and when few people are around, your sense of distance begins to fade.
